NANOSCALE SCIENCE RESEARCH CENTERS

The Nation's Premier Scientific User Facilities for Interdisciplinary Research at the Nanoscale

Becoming a User

The Nanoscale Science Research Center (NSRC) user program is designed to provide the international scientific community access to world-class centers operating as U.S. Department of Energy National User Facilities.

General Users

  • Individuals or groups seeking access to one or more NSRC capabilities.
  • Request access through a peer-reviewed proposal process.

Partner Users

  • Individuals, groups, or institutions who carry out research and enhance the capabilities or contribute to the operation of an NSRC.
  • These contributions must be made available to General Users to benefit the User Program.
  • Partner Users are provided negotiated access to one or more capabilities over a period of several years.

General User Proposals

  • Describe the scientific problem, research tasks, expected impact.
  • May include multiple users from multiple institutions.
  • May request access to multiple NSRCs.
  • May vary from single interaction to several visits utilizing a range of capabilities.

Rapid Access Proposals

  • Allow for access to an NSRC between user proposal cycles.
  • Must be time-critical.
  • Are for short-term work with extremely high-impact potential.

The NSRCs do not operate fee-for-service facilities and cannot provide funding to users.
